3 Low-Cal Versions of Summer Cocktails

A refreshing drink on a hot summer’s day will definitely cool you down, but it can play havoc with your waistline. Try these three slimmed-down classic summer cocktails the next time you are feeling a little thirsty.

Three Lower Calorie Cocktails You Will Want to Sip All Summer Long

Watermelon Mojito

Start with a drink that has Caribbean roots and then add watermelon. The result is a drink that screams summertime. Begin by cutting deseeded watermelon into 1-inch cubes. Freeze the watermelon cubes if possible, but it is not required. Place three watermelon cubes with five mint leaves in a Collins glass and muddle together. Pour in 1 ounce of a light rum and the juice from a lime wedge. Stir to combine. Add ice or more frozen watermelon cubes. Top with 4 ounces of sugar-free soda water, and garnish with a sprig of mint.

 

Gimlet

Gimlets may have fallen out of fashion, but this cocktail remains one of the best ways to drink gin when it is hot outside. This reduced-calorie version of the original Gimlet uses a zero-calorie Stevia simple syrup. You can find a recipe for the Stevia simple syrup here, or you may choose to use any sweetener you prefer. Fill a shaker with ice and pour in 2 ounces of a dry gin, an ounce of freshly squeezed lime juice, and half an ounce of the Stevia simple syrup. Shake, serve in a chilled cocktail (ideally a coupe) glass with a lime wheel garnish.

 

Paloma

Depending on where you live, you might not have heard of a Paloma cocktail before, but this simple-to-make cocktail is perfect for any tequila drinker who is looking to expand her horizons. This version replaces some of the traditional grapefruit soda with grapefruit-flavored seltzer to cut down on the calories. Pour 1.5 ounces of tequila into a chilled Collins glass. Add 2 ounces of grapefruit soda and ice. Top with grapefruit-flavored seltzer and stir gently to combine. Serve with a lime wheel garnish
